A mixed pie special for today!

Yesterday free of family responsibilities I had a wander over the far western reaches of this great riding. Although I made the mistake of collecting in person a couple Yeadon's Registers I had ordered before Christmas. I went into the shop to collect two books and came out an hour later with four!
Like General MacArthur and the Philippines; I have a feeling - "I shall return."
I don't know about brainless fish being discovered in the waters around Scotland. It would appear that perhaps Cast Iron's braincells are letting him down. His use of the health/social issues as an excuse for his proposed minimum alcohol unit pricing plans smacks very much of the Buffty frae Kirkcaldy's use of "Green" concerns to cloak his fixation for increasing taxation upon us.
Although as Leg Iron points out this maybe a cunning plan by Cast Iron to close down the NHS and do away with the entire medical profession. How's that for sorting out the nation's debt/deficit and being a true blue, cutting Conservative at the same time!
I would love to know the identity of the punter who was offering odds of 28-1 against the winning horse in the Leopardstown's Christmas Hurdle race even as it crossed the finishing line?
Although much to the said punter's relief  and the state of his underwear, BetFair have voided all the betting on that particular race, citing a technical error as their excuse. Still who would be as foolish as that, plus have a limit of £21m on his account?
Sounds like a former Scottish banker out for a day at the races to me!
Once again we are reminded that we're not "all in it together" as this government ignores reforming the morally corrupt rent-to-buy sector. By dismissing a call from the Office of Fair Trading for action our political elite show their contempt for those being ripped off by these deals.
Of course they have never been faced with these choices, they have the gift that keeps on giving, their expenses stolen out of our pockets!
I wonder when we'll see the headline: "UK - US Extradites Man Accused of War Crimes in early 2000's"; instead of the headline we see in today's IHT in regard of the Bosnian conflict?
Of course you know of whom I refer to!
Well the weather doesn't look too good outside, nor is it forecast to be very favourable, but I think I might treat myself to a ride on the Mince Pie Special today. I wish you all a pleasant day.

Go for it if the weather is holding. Local tourism supports local businesses.

Totally off topic, but just before Xmas I was looking for a particular photo of Hull (which I didn't find) and came across a couple of photos of a German U-Boat which got stranded in the Humber. I thought you might be interested in it. You need to scroll down just past halfway. Link

Many thanks for that link John, I've just had a look upon returning home.
She looks like she has been stripped of her deck guns and might have been under tow.
So I'm presuming it was just after the war had finished and she was on her way up to be scuttled with the rest of the U-boats allocated to the British.
Operation Deadlight was the name for the British side of it.
Similar thing happened where my father was brought up. Only this time it was an E-boat under tow to Milford Haven for evaluation.
Anyway interesting, I'll have a look on U-boat net for anything about it, but thanks.
Oh and all the best for 2012 John.

BB: Thanks for that info, all I have is that beneath the photo.

I am looking forward to New Year's Eve. Not so sure about the year ahead.

A friend of mine who is a former high ranking civil servant said in a recent email:

"On the prisoner votes issue I cannot see a Eurosceptic Government enacting English and Welsh legislation to give most prisoners the vote unless their feet are held to a legal fire which really hurts and the only escape is to get on with it. The current mood in the Conservative and key elements of the Labour party make votes for prisoners extremely unpopular politically".

I quite like the thought of subjecting "Call me Dictator" and co to legal torture. I don't believe there is any escaping from complying with the judgment. I will even go as far as predicting 2012 will see the vote in prisons. Watch out for the British Spring.

All the best to you too for 2012.

Well you managed to get your foot in the door over the prisoner's voting rights in 2011.
So perhaps in 2012 you'll get to kick it in!
All the best.
